Point of view

I have just watched "Miss USA" beauty contest on channel 7, which was taken from NBC channel (i beleive USA). The contestant were all gorgeous. Miss Taxas takes the title Miss USA.

What struked me while watching the program (yea.. there was not other good TV programme on at the time on other channel) was how the judges in the matter of probably less than one minute, decided on the point to be given to each contestant as one by one walked on the stage. For every theme like swim suit, evening dress, may be some others (I was only watching half way through), the judges gave point and some contestant were eleminated hereafter.

It was intriguing, and i never failed to wonder how the points were based on. They are all gorgeous. They are winner in state beauty contest. If i am one of the judge, i will probably giving 10 out of 10 to all of them. There is just no way i can differentiate them. Probably, i guess in order to know beauty, you have to know the "defect' or ugly part of the women on that stage.

This remind me of my work, where i am being "train" to see building defects. It is becoming unpleasant, especially when people walk into a building, people see beauty but as for myself i see building defect. This has rob me of enjoying building beauty and probably arch enemy of building arhitects.
Now translate that to judging women.... i will not see beauty in women but only "defect"... Lucky, I am not like this.. otherwise just imagine.. how are you going to choose your woman, if the only thing you see is defect and beauty!!!!

For this shot, give some space to the right of the subject, this gives a sense of perspective that appears as if there is something to see in the distance. It makes a huge difference as opposed to putting the subject in the center.

Another good rule of thumb is the 3rds rule, divide the scene into 3 equal sections horizontally & vertically. There should be gridlines you can toggle for your DSLR's viewfinder. Use that to help when composing the shot.
